The Northern Isles has been a concept of mine for quiet some time now. I see myself as a realist sort of a DM, and of the multitude of campaign worlds published by TSR and assorted authors on the net I never really found one that suited my tastes. Worlds such as Toril (the Forgotten Realms setting) I found distasteful due to the overabundance of magic, it was at the point where magic lost its special appeal. The online world of Tharferr kept me interested for a short while, but somewhere along the line the Thardferr that I knew became changed and distorted... but thats all in the past now and almost forgotten. Which brings me to the Northern Isles. One of the most enjoyable campaigns that I ever had the pleasure to play in was a campaign set in ancient Greece. After that game concluded for a variety of reasons I had become entranced with the time period and detailed culture of ancient times. So I thought to myself, why not make a campaign world based heavily on ancient cultures of the past and so the concept of the Northern Isles was born. Based around a series of large island chains the Northern Isles is a setting dominated by oceans and seafarers. It doesnt take much to scratch of the surface of many of the nations before you find which ancient culture I originally based them on. So please enter and enjoy. General Notes
